Man Tears in La Paz…. and Tshirts
The Afro is really beginning to take shape.
Written Sunday May 6th- Could not post until today due to lack of Internet in the Jungle.

Im sitting in my La Paz hotel room….Its 2:00am in the morning.
This is my last night in La Paz, and I think Im going to miss it. Even the stopping every 10 steps to catch my breath due to the 4000m altitude is bringing a man tear to my eye.
Ah, the man tear, there has been a few of those these last few days. My Irish contingent left me. The Dark Horse, Martin, Jenny, DJ, and my dear beloved Orla all hit the road for the Salt Flats. Me met up in Lima well over a month a go. Man tears ensued. I have such a new profound love for the Irish.
The Aussies are here though. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to the first DaveFordDoesEarth Tshirt, brought to you and completely designed by former Australian Navy diver and my traveling compadre Billy Barnetset. Its pretty much the most fashionable thing ever created.

On the Front its a picture of me from our wine tour in Mendoza in January that Billy took. He took complete initiative with this, yet, he has not even checked out the blog yet.

Im headed back into the Jungle with an Australian contingent. I loved Runnebacque, and want to hang with the boys in such a great place. Leah (Aus), Jess (Aus), and Siri (Denmark) have also joined our crew and are headed with us to the Jungle.
Sidenote: Billy met Jess and Leah in Isla Grande, Brazil a few months back. So it is a homecoming of sorts.
I have decided that Im going to write a piece on the types of westerners and locals that end up living in the Jungles of Bolivia. I met quite a few last time, and want to document some of the craziness. Or, is it completely normal that these guys are living in the jungle and is it crazy that we are working from 8 to 6 every night in the states? Anyway, it should be interesting to try and communicate the story of this next phase of the trip through the people I meet.

I went to the biggest market in La Paz today with a Dutch Girl named Kim that we have been hanging out with the last few days. This market was completely out of control, complete with bootleg copies of DVDS (Spiderman 3 seems to selling pretty good), Tires, Power tools, Pipe Fittings, Puppies (for 18 Bolivinos US $2 ), Suites, Ties, Dress Clothes, and much FUBU. The market was a total of 15 square blocks. We were the only two gringos we saw.
Note to self: Do not ask local people here selling chickens if you can take their picture as they will curse you profusely.
These are all bootleg copied DVDS selling for arond US 75cents.

Some pix of the craziest market I have ever seen.
Looks like right now that I ll be back in the states in August for a few months, then off to South Africa…. Maybe I ll spend another 8 months in Africa. I really do not have a clue. I am going to roll with it just like I have been. I am having a really good time rolling without too many plans.
I am currently looking to purchase a late 60’s early 70’s Voltswagon Mini Van for my brief stay in the US (this should closely resemble the Van used by the Libyans to kill Doc Brown in the opening scene of Back to the Future. I am also planning on getting DaveFordDoesEarth.com painted on the side of it, perhaps with a few large horses just to make it a little special. If anyone knows where I can get a vintage Voltswagon van please hit me up or comment below.

Notes:
>I think I know of an internet cafe in the Jungle that will allow me to post over the next few days. This could work brilliantly, or could make me extremely furious. We will wait and see(clearly this didnt work as I have not been able to post in the last 10 days).
> Going to have to bag the video until I get back to the states. Its too frustrating to deal with, and I want to concentrate on my writing and the pending book deal. I cannot get the stupid camera to sync with my mac. Apparently not everything is compatible just yet. Basically, I am at my wits end with it and simply cannot deal.
> I watched the Will Smith Pursuit of Happiness movie and shed a man tear tonight.

> I am beginning to think that man tears are the wave of the future.
> Change of plans, splitting with the Aussies after the Jungle and flying to Santa Cruz. I have been planning on doing the park since January and its not fitting into the BV Shows schedule. He still needs to hit up Machu Picchu. Looks like we are going to do the Galapagos Islands, Columbia, and Cuba.
> I plan on making more DaveFordDoesEarth T shirts that are equally ridiculous to what Billy has put together. Could this beginning of a new fashion trend.
>I found this picture of Ben on the web today from his Aussie Navy Days (Google Search Ben Vears). Its pretty, damn, hysterical. He really did not want me to post it. Frankly, I do not think I had any choice. If you live in Baltimore, look out for this guy in early August. He is coming to town with me for three months to work before he hits the ski season in Canada.
The picture appeared in an Australian Newspaper. The BV Show insists that the photographer forced him to pose in this matter. I do not believe him. In fact, I think that deep down inside Ben really likes this picture. I think it might be in the running for the gayest photo ever taken (not that there is anything wrong with that).

Toucan Bob is a Yes Man
Here’s a site that may help…not sure if the van is still available, but it’s a start:

Dave, I’m so envious of your adventures. Glad to see there are people like you in this world that embrace this planet with open arms, open eyes, and an open spirit. Good for you man. Jenn Armstrong :)
Don,
Toucan Bob is a saint. Bite your tounge. I hung about with him for a second time last night.
Jenn,
Thanks for the link. It looks like Ebay might be the best option. I saw one today for 1200 bucks. that could work. I just need to lock down a custom painter and I ll be off to the races. Looking forward to football season. I ll be there for the first two months.
Peace,
DF
