Sept 24th… Time flies when you live in a Garage

Posted by Dave Ford

I am currently sitting at my office located in the back of a breakfast joint in Federal Hill sucking down my second cup of coffee. I actually bought breakfast today as I am afraid I will lose my office priveleges if I keep sitting here for hours while only buying 1 cup of coffee for $1.38.

I am completely wiped from the Ravens game yesterday. In summary, the Ravens blew a big lead and ended up winning on a field goal as time ran out. I was in an advanced state of hammeredom for most of yesterday.

My good friend Josh had an extra ticket. So, he came over to Garaj Mahal early and we dove head first into pregame rituals and festivities. We ended up wandering around to multiple tail gates for a few hours. I got to see a ton of friends that I have not seen since my triumphant return. During the game, I spent much of my time screaming bad things about Arizona running back Edgerin James. He was one of my fantasy football running backs last year. He let me down in a big way and I will never forgive him. He sucks immensely.

Garaj Mahal is always out of control on game days. Phil always makes up a big spread. He also whipped up a fresh batch of “Peacocks Delight”, his famous drink. Binck had tickets to the Redskins game so he was not around. I do not know what the hell Benny was doing. I do know that he ran home from the complete other side of the city this morning. It had to be at least about 7 miles. Benny is crazy!

Tomorrow I have a class at the Apple store. I feel like I will be spending quite a bit of time there in the next few months. I have FINALLY been able to upload and view all of my movies from South America. So, you can expect to see some footage shortly as I will be forcing the Mac people to teach me how to use iMovie.

Also, we are going to put together some new crazy tapes for Phil. So, the video camera is coming out of the bag. Dave Binck is spearheading the crazy tape project.

I have to work today. I am not exactly thrilled about it. But, it should be a nice 5 mile walk.

I cannot believe it is September 24th. I have been back in the USA for 5 weeks. In another five weeks Benny will be in Canada and Dave and I will be getting ready to leave for our cross country trip.

Notes:

> I got quite a few really good emails about my last post. If you guys could post these sort of wonderful emails in the comment section of the blog it would be much appreciated. Lots of people emailed me with other new music recommendations as well and I think it would be great to share with other readers.

> Since I have been writing regularly my numbers have shot back up. Spread the word if you like what you are reading. Also, do not forget to sign up to receive DaveFordDoesEarth posts via email. Right now I think I have about 500 people reading the blog. Most are from the Baltimore Washington corridor. However, I have good numbers in Hawaii, Chicago, California, New York, Sydney, Peru, and Belgium of all places. I currently have 115 people that receive the emails. My goal is to have 250 people signed up before I leave for Africa.

> Thanks for all the emails with suggestions on ways to bathe our pet fox. We will take in account all of your ideas. He smells terrible.

  1. Dave,

If you’re looking to build traffic, you should check out some of the travel writing sites around the web and see if you can’t write an article for them or something. Then you could have them link back to your blog. Try
    http://www.vagablogging.net/ for a start.

  2. Dave,
Is is true you urinated in a trash can Sunday night…. Or is that just a runor I heard from Phil??? Something sure does smell weird in the Garage……

    BV SHOW xx

  3. Bob, good comment. Im on it. Apparently the number one way to increase your google rank is to be linked to other blogs… This was told to me by a guy named Nate that hiked to the Lost City in Colombia. I cannot verify if it is true.

BV SHOW… You are sitting next to me on the couch watching a bad Wesley Snipes movie at 1am on a Monday. I hate you and am a much better speller than you.

  4. Anyone who visits Garage Mahalll, DO NOT drink the water in the YELLOW bucket. Dave, when you visit Africa, try riding a huge male LION on his back, pulling on his tail at the same time, screaming “EDGERIN JAMES SUCKS” A MILLION TIMES. They love that! I can imagine that would be great video.

  5. Yeah you need links from other sites and fresh content (which you already have because it’s a blog). So I would focus on building links, maybe by visiting other blogs & commenting, etc.

  6. Dave, I am loving the frequent postings! Your blog is one of the highlights of my otherwise extremely boring day :)

  7. Yaay, Kah-lee-fohrn-ya!

Dave, I’m no PRO, but would definitely help you with iMovie. I’ve been using it for quite a while (used it for the Lonely Planet movies) and I find it easier (friendlier and more fun!) than Final Cut. I use to do radio in college and find the program’s visual linear-ity (huh?) more than helpful in applying technics (ie., music levels, up/over/under, etc..). So I might be able to answer a few questions you may have. I would suggest sticking with iMovie HD as the new iMovie is not as linear but still very pretty to look at.

I’m most of the time online which could be an advantage over the guys at the apple store :)

Finally (I guess I could’ve just emailed you vs. posting a comment) what do you think about linking the blogs? We might be even able to start up a syndicate of our own consisting of travel bloggers (or is that blogging travelers?).

  8. Can you alter the html of this page, i.e. the meta tags, etc.? If so I can get this thing humming in no time. You can pay me in beetle dung or carry my bag in Pinehurst. Seriously, let me know what the deal is.

  9. I just answered my own question and edited the html on my blog. We need a meeting and I’ll optimize your blog for search, should be easy. 50 beetle dungs per hour is all I ask.

  10. Rikki, Im in. Lets link the blogs.

Dom, what in the hell is a “Meta Tag”?

    Ok… got to go caddy…

  11. Between Google and Wikipedia, you can understand the whole world. Well, the whole world in written form.

    From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meta :
Meta (from Greek: μετά = “after”, “beyond”, “with”), is a prefix used in English in order to indicate a concept which is an abstraction from another concept, used to complete or add to the latter.

Also, the entry on metatag (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metatag) has a section on how they apply to Search Engine Optimization (ie. increasing your rank in Google for relevant terms). Searching Google for Search Engine Optimization will give you more information (and places that want to sell you services for that matter) than you can deal with.

On second thought, you’re better off writing. Take Dom up on his offer and make him do it for you. 50 beetle dungs an hour is nothing. Especially when you’re heading to Africa — the things are everywhere (at least that’s what it looks like on National Geographic).

    -A Guy Named Nate

  12. Dave,

I wouldn’t bother with the META tags; they’re not going to make much difference. The most important things in Google’s eyes are incoming links and relevant content. Feel free to email me if you want more info, I have a few other ideas for you as well.

  13. To my computer consulting team of Nate, Dom, and Bob.. Keep bringing it.

    Much appreciated..

I am going to hit all of you up.

Nate, are you in London now?
