The BV Show at the Honky Tonk bar Tootsies on Lower Broadway in Nashville

The illustrious “Cross Country TV” crew pulls into the “heart of country music land” deep in the hills of Tennessee.

Music oozes from every nook and cranny of Nashville. During our stay we were fortunate to be able to stay at the “Charly Salvatore bed and breakfast”. Charly and I went to school together years ago and he now works in the publishing side of the music business in this vibrant city of the south.

Sidenote: It is a breath of fresh air to come to a city where you are almost required to wear jeans and a t-shirt out to the clubs every night. Anything more would be simply overdressing. A cowboy hat and a collared shirt would work as well.

Charly told us many stories about the chilled out vibe in Nashville. The pace of life is slow. Celebrities love Nashville as the people here respect their rights to live like normal human beings. Kid Rock, Nicole Kidman, Keith Urban, Al Gore and just about any country music star you could think of live in Nashville.

Our time in Nashville was more about painting the town red as opposed to actually doing anything productive during the day. On our first night out we hit the honky-tonk bars “Tootsies” and “The Stage” on the main strip on lower Broadway in downtown Nashville. Dave Binck and I ended up Texas two stepping with a couple of southern bells by the end up the night. Missy and Ruthanne took great care to show us the intricacies of the special dance of the south.

The BV show gives us a Nashville Weather Report

The honkey tonks were filled to the brim with both young and old folks. Moreover, every single bar on that side of town had at least one country band playing. “Tootsies”, one of the staple bars had a band upstairs and a band downstairs. Although I personally have never been a huge country music fan, it is hard not to appreciate the scene.

The fab five report

In each post I am going to give a brief snapshot of evolving relationships of the five people that are also on this cross country journey with me.

> Daddio and Benny have both been on their cell phones texting for the entire duration of our journey together. Although I am not completely sure, I believe that the other end of Daddio’s text messages are heading to New York while Benny’s are heading back to Australia.

>The other night Jess squirted (by squirted I mean drenched) Dave Binck with a sprayer attached to Charly’s kitchen sink. I was afraid that a full on rumble might break out.

> So far Dave Binck, Benny, and I have done the bulk of the driving. Jess has not driven for about a year and is a bit apprehensive about driving on the “wrong side of the road”. Daddio drives slower than most grandmothers so we have been trying to keep him in the passenger seat.
