Day 6: The Journey from Memphis to New Orleans
Day 6 started out with a very pissed Dave Binck going to town on workers at both the Memphis Holiday Inn and Orbitz. He was double charged on his American express and was not happy. We had to sit at the hotel for about an hour and a half to straighten everything out. Dave was not alone in his frustration.

After the Holiday Inn/Orbitz confrontation we popped briefly onto Beale Street in downtown Memphis for some good old fashioned Memphis barbecue. We were hoping to get to New Orleans by nightfall. However, our crew has been getting up around 10 or 11ish and not getting out of our respective hotel rooms until after 12 noon. This has especially been the case in the music cities as we have been out late watching live music. So it is always a challenge to actually get going on the road. It is setting in that late departures are going to be a fact of life on this trip.
So we set out of Memphis to navigate the 6 hour drive through Mississippi to New Orleans. I drove the whole way with the BV Show in the Mini Van while Jess, Daddio, and Dave had deep and meaningful talks in the Volvo.
The drives have been great bonding time for everyone. Collectively, the inside jokes are flying. If a stranger got into our cars for a few minutes they would not have any idea what the hell we are all talking about. My favorite inside joke involves the “blog bot”. I am not sure if this will be funny to the rest of the world but the rest of the crew has invented a robot version of myself. This robot survives exclusively on Apple Macs and Starbucks Coffee. Basically, they make fun of everything I do in life using a robot voice. It is a bit of a mystery how this actually started.

>I think that Jess’ initial shock and surprise of the otherwise “boy’s road trip” is wearing off. I do not know how many girls out there could travel with 4 guys like Binck, Daddio, Benny, and myself so easily. She is a trooper.

Daddio and the BV shows rapid texting has not let up in the least bit. It is still a mystery as to who they are actually writing all of these messages to. There is a hypothesis that they may be texting each other.
>Dave Binck bought a cowboy hat. We are all fairly excited about it. When in cowboy mode he has decided to go by the name D.W. McGillacutty.

Hey, I caught your blog on a News Alert for New Orleans. Sorry I missed y’all while you were in Memphis.
Check out my new blog, the New Orleans News Ladder, on your way to the City That Care Forgot and the Presidente left for dead. Hope you have a great time.

Do make sure to go to Frenchman Street, for six or seven local music venues in two blocks, on the weekend nights (it is good too during the week but really hot on the weekends). It was my stomping grounds until Katrina blew me up to Memphis. I still get down to town though, once every month on the train. It’s just a long road homey. I hope you enjoy the site and feel free to say hello.
Thanks and
Lassezes Le Bon Temp Roule’!!!
