Thrown for a loop
On my last post I wrote about BBC journalist Lola Almudevar, a close friend of mine that was killed in Bolivia last weekend in a car accident on her way to cover political unrest in the city of Sucre. Needless to say, I have been thrown for a loop by the loss of my friend.
I have spent the last three days hiking in the depths of the Grand Canyon attempting to come to terms with what happened to Lola. I still do not know why things like this happen. But, this whole experience has reaffirmed my purpose. If there is one prevailing idea that I am taking away from this tragedy, it is that I am not going to waste a second of this life.
“My goal is to travel the world for the next five years and I am going to do whatever it takes to make it happen.”
Lola and I were both 29 years old and on very similar paths. We both left a conventional world for an extremely unconventional alternative. We both found happiness through this new life. I will say this, if I had to pick a way to leave this earth, it would be the same way that Lola went. She left living her dreams.
The following website has been put together by Lola’s family in tribute to her life. She touched so many lives in such a positive way. http://www.lolaalmudevar.com/

Notes:
> Thanks for the flurry of phone calls, comments, and emails with regards to Lola.
> Posts on our current cross country journey across the US will continue next week.
> Somehow I managed to be the featured interview on Penseyeview.com this week. Penseyeview interviews a different artist, musician, etc. every 48 hours. There are a lot of questions about how I came to travel the world and live this lifestyle. Thanks to Richie and the team at Pens Eye View for taking interest in my story. It is very much appreciated.

Dave, as Lola’s friend I share your loss and wish you all the best in the future. I was the one she was emailing from that bar where someone spilt booze all over you - I was back in London, working the night shift at the BBC and giving Lola a little advice on her first article she was writing. I heard all about that incident and the drunken fool who put her computer in hospital. I’m still in a state of disbelief about losing her, unfortunately for me I’m back on the night shift and not in the grand canyon clearing my head. Best of luck with your mission of life, and remember - just do what Lola would do! Adam
Dave,
Congratulations! We are so proud of you. Keep up the great work and make the dream a reality. Travel on! We’re clapping our hands… and well,… paws for your success!

Dave,
Dad and I just returned from the Carribean. We were so sad to hear of Lola’s untimely death. My heart goes out to her parents. As a parent of a traveler, it is our worst nightmare. May God help her family through their ordeal. My deepest sympathy.
Love,
Mom
Dave,
I’m so sorry to hear about your friend! Will be praying for you and her family. Sounds like she was an amazing girl. That’s so sad!
