PICTURED: One of the many drawings I received. This on is of a Cartoon Penguin holding a Pizza and wearing a feathery hat. A few weeks back I blogged about my experience speaking with 80 third graders at Shipley’s Choice elementary school in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. I was asked by my friend Josh’s 9 year old daughter Madde to come in and talk about my trip. So, I put together a slide show with many of my pictures from South America and Antarctica and told the story of my 8 month adventure last year. During the 45 minute expose I spent a lot of time talking about the variety of animals that I encountered, the weird foods that I ate, and the different activities I found myself involved in. The kids were a blast and asked a lot of tough questions.

Yesterday I received 80 thank you cards from my new friends. I’d like to share of few of them.

Dear Dave Ford,

Thank you so much talking to us about your trip. I loved hearing about all the foods you ate, animals you saw, and places you went to. I loved the extraordinary slide show you made for us just so we could see pictures of your trip! All the animals were so cool to see and the backgrounds were all so beautiful! I loved seeing the huge Galapagos tortoises and its amazing you ate guinea pig! I could hardly believe it when you said giant crocodiles were afraid of pink dolphins! It was cool when you told us about the people you met and where they came from. I can’t wait until you come back with more stories to tell.

Thank you Dave Ford for coming to Shipleys choice and telling us about your adventures. I liked it because it had animals in it but it was gross when you said you ate a guinea pig and it taste like chicken. BLAH! Anyways, it was great! Hope you come back soon. Mr. Dave Ford thank you so much!

Dear Dave Ford, Thank you for coming to my school. It is really nice of you to take the time to come to my school. I love it when you talked about a penguin and the pink dolphins (referring to Amazonian Pink Dolphins). It is so unfair that you did not get to touch the penguins. Thats the rules! I cant believe you climbed a mountain. Was it high? Thank you. Have fun in Asia.

Dear Dave Ford, Thank you for coming to our school. It was awesome! I loved it! My favorite parts were when you told us about the animals and food you ate like guinea pig and llama. Also, I liked the picture of the alpaca and that you said it spit on a lady. That was very, very funny. Also, that picture of the giant Christ (referring to the Christ statue in Brazil) was so cool and the pictures of the penguins and leopard seal were cool. I hope you have a safe trip and come back to tell us about it!

Thank you for coming to our school and teaching us about Antarctica and South America. i especially liked the island made of plant (referring to the floating islands in Lake Titicaca outside of Puno, Peru). I also like Brazil. In case you thought I was not paying attention the island was held up by a few poles.

Dear Dave, Thank you for coming in and giving us a wonderful interview of where you went in 2007! Was the Hamster you ate good? Personally I wouldn’t think so! Great Job! P.S. I love reading and writing comic books so heres a main character . His name is Jake Akorn. When Jake is a super hero his super hereo name is Mega Morphors.

He drew me a sweet picture of Mega Morphors.
