After Day 3 our Northern Circuit, Tanzanian Safari

Posted by Dave Ford

Again typing from a satellite internet link. Forgive me if this

This is an excerpt taken directly from my journal while on safari in Tanzania.

NOTES (Because, sometimes it is just easier to take notes):

 > Donald, our driver, has a serious thirst for knowledge of American slang. So far we have taught him “whack”, “my bad”, “sweet”, and  ”number 1 and number 2″ (bathroom knowledge), and the safari jeep is now “his ride”.

> Marvin and I are finding great amusement in some of the clothes people are wearing in the villages here. Yesterday we saw a young kid wearing a Daunte Culpepper jersey from his days with the Minnesota Vikings. In addition, last night at our campsite one of the employees was wearing a 1994 Michael Bolton world tour t-shirt. I am pretty sure that if this dude actually knew who Michael Bolton was he would jump in front of a stampeding herd of elephants. At least it is reassuring to know that some of the clothes we give away to the Salvation Army are actually getting to Africa.

> We have dubbed our Safari Jeep “the Love Boat” as it seems to put many of the animals we encounter in the mood for deep, sensual love making. The Baboons and Elephants love us and have been “getting it on”. Who knew our crew would come together like Voltron to form the ultimate wildlife aphrodesiac?

> Today we will enter the famous and massive 1000 square mile large Serengeti National Park. In late February the wildebeest come together here in a huge migration to protect the mothers and newborn infants during calving season. Over 8,000 calves are born per day. Only 40% of those survive. Damn those dirty, nasty hyenas. Damn them straight to hell.

> We got a beer at a village the other day and encountered a large group of Masai warriors in the back of the bar watching TV. They were cheering like Marv and I  would be back home watching our the Baltimore Ravens  score the winning touchdown on a Sunday afternoon. Enthralled and interested, we looked over to see what they were watching. I am not sure if the result was to our dismay or delight. Who would have thought the Masai were into the WWE? I think the match was for the tag team championship.

  1. Without the Hyenas the dirty calves would eat all the grass and thier feces would wash into the water supply and mass disease would occur. And then “Daunte Culpepper Jersey guy” would not live long enough to get the Raiders version of Daunte’s jersey.
(Non of this has been proven to be factual, just my view on nature working it’s course.)

  2. Does the ipod in the ipod contest come with the Nelly Furtado album pictured on your website?

  3. I think you are going to have to buy your own Nelly Furtado album Donald.
